ABOUT

Anne Rehkopf Townsend has thirty years’ of professional fundraising experience.

Before launching ART + Strategy in 2005, Anne served as the Director of Development at the Brooklyn Historical Society and the National Academy of Design, two New York City based cultural organizations that gave her direct experience with development planning, board recruitment, major gift strategies, membership programs, capital planning and campaigns, event management and planning, foundation and government grants, direct mail campaigns, and more. Working alongside small teams at these organizations, Anne developed the skills needed to manage multiple projects while understanding the best and most effective ways to use her time and engage other staff and board members in fundraising efforts.

Working with dozens of growing organizations of all sizes under the umbrella of ART + Strategy, Anne has empowered her clients to raise millions of dollars by helping them put a plan in place and coaching them to execute the plan. Once organizations meet their goals, many clients re-engage Anne to chart another course forward. She has become an invaluable resource to many executive directors, often serving as a trusted advisor as they transition to new leadership opportunities.

Throughout her career, Anne has regularly volunteered her time in her community. She has served on several nonprofit boards, including the Junior League of Brooklyn, Rebuilding Together, and the Association of Junior Leagues International. She served for five years as a member of Nonprofit New York’s Nonprofit Excellence Award selection committee and is currently on the board of the Cobble Hill Tree Fund and the Association of Fundraising Professionals New York City (AFP-NYC). At the AFP-NYC, Anne serves as the co-chair the Professional Advancement Committee and as a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Committee.

She received a BA in art history from Newcomb College, Tulane University, is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and has a Certificate of Nonprofit Board Consulting from BoardSource. She is currently pursuing her masters in Museum Studies at the City University of New York. In her free time, she loves to cook, explore cities on foot, garden, and read about artists.

ART + Strategy is proud to be a New York City Certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise.

WORKING WITH ANNE

Approach

I am a sole practitioner on purpose.

I LOVE getting to know my clients, developing a relationship, and working with them one on one to help solve issues around fundraising. Helping clients uncover their strengths, teaching them how to do the work independently, and seeing them succeed without me is my main goal.

All my clients come through referrals from current and former clients. Because we develop a relationship, I stay in touch after the work together is complete — checking in periodically, celebrating successes, and listening to challenges as they arise.

Fees

Each client is unique, and each project is unique. We work together to create the best scope to address your needs. I establish fees for services based on an agreed upon scope of work and timeframe for accomplishing objectives. Rates are reflective of the time and staffing needs of the project. I do not take a percentage of funds raised or a commission for services, consistent with the code of ethics of the American Association of Fund Raising Professionals.
